Two brothers arrested in connection with San Marcos homicide

Jason Portier and Jacob Portier

SAN MARCOS, Texas (KXAN) — Two brothers have been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a man in a San Marcos condo parking lot.

Police confirmed Friday that Jacob Portier, 27, and Jason Portier, 26, had been taken into custody and booked into the Hays County Jail on Thursday.

Jail records show they face capital murder charges in the death of 27-year-old Matthew Jacob Rodriguez. Rodriguez was shot multiple times in the chest and died at the Park North Condos in the 1600 block of Aquarena Springs Drive around 2:24 a.m. Aug. 14.

The management of the condo says Rodriguez did not live there. Police released few details about the brothers. They said they had connections in San Marcos, but most recently lived in Round Rock.

This is the first homicide in San Marcos this year. Last year, five people were killed.
