AUSTIN (KXAN) — A teenager who was shot at an elementary school in northeast Austin Monday night remains in the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, the Austin Police Department said Thursday.
Officers were called to Manor ISD’s Bluebonnet Trail Elementary School at 11316 Farmhaven Rd. around 11:35 p.m.
APD says the elementary school was empty at the time of the shooting and the school was not targeted as a location for the shooting.
The 911 caller said someone was shot but did not say exactly where the male victim was located.
Travis County sheriff’s deputies and Austin police officers searched the Harris Branch neighborhood for the victim, finding the boy in the 1100 block of Barns Trail, nearly a half-mile from where the shooting happened.
Detectives say the boy was at the school with another person when he was shot by several individuals. The other person with the boy was uninjured.
Neighbor Yvonda Jeffries told KXAN she was about to go to bed when she heard a bang on the door and saw the teenager running across the street, screaming, “I’ve been shot, somebody help me! Please help me!”
Jeffries said the teen was walking in circles saying, “They set me up! They set me up!”
