A Houston father turned his 18-year-old son into Austin police after his son allegedly showed him video of stolen firearms during a FaceTime interview, according to an arrest affidavit.
Cristian Martell Daniel was on the video call with his father on April 13 when he bragged about items he recently got, police say. According to the suspect’s father, his son showed him a bag that looked similar to a police bag that had a 9mm handgun in it and a citation book with Houston Police Department written on it.
Daniel told his father he broke into a car and stole the bag with all of the police equipment, according to the affidavit. He went on to tell his father he had burglarized 250 cars in the last week. He said he was targeting jogging locations and mall parking lots, continued in the affidavit.
The father told police his son showed him a total of half a dozen firearms in the video call.
Worried for his son’s safety as well as the public’s safety, the suspect’s father reported it to authorities. The father told authorities his son was on probation for burglarizing a home and since his release from the Travis County Jail in January, he’s been on a “crime spree.”
Daniel was arrested on April 17 and charged with theft of a firearm and unlawful carrying of a weapon.
