Suspect arrested after man was found shot outside Taylor hospital

TAYLOR, Texas (KXAN) — Police arrested a man after another man was dropped off at a Taylor hospital with gunshot wounds Monday night.

Around 9:05 p.m. a man came inside Baylor Scott and White Hospital on 205 Mallard Lane, saying someone outside had been shot. That man drove off.

Nurses took the victim inside and found he had bullet wounds in his chest and arm. He was transferred to Seton Williamson County Hospital and is in stable condition.

Officers found the car where he had been shot in the parking lot of the hospital.

On Tuesday detectives had enough information to arrest Manuel Herrera Jr., 43. Around 6:54 p.m. officers found him riding in a car, and when they pulled it over he ran off near the 900 block of E. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Taylor. They caught him less than half a mile away.

Officers searched his pockets and found 45-caliber bullets and methamphetamine, as well as a 45-caliber semi-automatic pistol in the car he ran from.

He faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, evading arrest/detention on foot, possession of a controlled substance and felon in possession of a firearm.
