Round Rock resident Steve Kim has been indicted on federal counterfeiting charges for allegedly selling more than $325,000 worth of counterfeit sports apparel on eBay.
Steve Kim, 58, was arrested in Austin Thursday, U.S. Attorney John F. Bash and Homeland Security Investigations Special Agent in Charge Shane Folden announced.
Kim has been charged with one count of conspiracy to defraud the United States and one count of trafficking in counterfeit goods.
From 2010 to 2017, Kim is accused of acquiring the fake jerseys and hats — the vast majority shipped from China to his home in Round Rock — and selling them online as NBA, MLB, NFL and NHL jerseys and hats.
On June 2, 2017, federal and state authorities searched Kim’s home and seized more than 2,300 items with counterfeit markings, including from the NBA, MLB, NFL, NHL, Reebok, Louis Vuitton, New Era and others.
Federal officials said the suggested retail value of the seized items exceeds $189,000.
Kim faces up to five years in federal prison on the conspiracy charge and up to 10 years in prison on the counterfeit goods charge, if convicted.
Homeland Security investigated the case with the assistance of the Austin Police Department and the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office.
