SAN MARCOS, Texas (KXAN) — San Marcos police arrested a man Tuesday night who allegedly restrained his ex-girlfriend in her apartment for 24 hours and assaulted her at least twice.

San Marcos police officers responded to a welfare concern at approximately 10 p.m. at the Palm Apartments on Thorpe Lane. The person who made the call requested the police check on the victim after receiving suspicious text messages from her.

The officers who responded say they determined the victim was being held against her will in her apartment by her ex-boyfriend Timothy Gomez, 23.

According to police, Gomez had an active felony arrest warrant out of the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office for burglary of habitation and intent to commit a felony. Police also say Gomez was known to carry weapons and have violent tendencies.

The combined forces of the San Marcos Hays County SWAT Team, Crisis Negotiation Team and the Criminal Investigations Division were called in to handle the hostage situation. Authorities were able to get on the phone with Gomez and were able to negotiate him voluntarily leaving the residence.

Gomez is being held at the Hays County Law Enforcement Center and is being held on his previous warrant, as well as additional charges of continuous violence against family/household and unlawful restraint.
