AUSTIN (KXAN) — KXAN is keeping track of the number of homicides in the City of Austin. On July 23, the total number reported in 2021 surpassed the total for all of 2020. The city’s 60th homicide – a new record high – was reported on Sept. 12.

The charts below will be updated as we learn new information. Scroll down for a map of where each incident occurred.

In total, 88 homicides were reported in Austin in 2021. Austin Police initially reported an 89th homicide that occurred on Dec. 10. As of Jan. 10, 2022, APD says the incident is not being counted toward the homicide total, pending further information from the medical examiner.
