Man shot and killed in southwest Austin, neighbor describes what he heard

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man was shot and killed on Saturday morning in southwest Austin, the Austin Police Department says.

According to APD, officers found 59-year-old David Dunn with significant trauma that included a gunshot wound when they responded around 4:33 a.m. to the 3800 block of Alexandria Drive near Brodie Lane after reports of shots fired.

Austin-Travis County EMS were called to attend to the patient, but he was pronounced dead at 5 a.m.

APD says detectives have identified most of the people involved and also recovered video from the scene that includes extensive footage of the event. The incident appears to be isolated, police say.

Those involved are encouraged to contact the APD Homicide Unit at 512-974-8477 to provide their statements about the incident.

“I got woken up by hearing about 9 or 10 gunshots,” a neighbor said. “About a minute after that I heard some girls screaming ‘Ahh! He shot him, he shot him, he shot him!’ So there was a lot of commotion out here so I called 911″ 

The Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death.
