A man is accused of stealing a pizza delivery person’s car while it was left running in northwest Austin.
The delivery driver told police he was delivering a pizza at 5709 W. Parmer Lane near McNeil Drive, and left the car unlocked. When he returned, his Chevy Cruze was gone.
Police used the car’s OnStar service to find it less than four miles away at an apartment complex at 2000 Cedar Bend Drive. Officials found a McDonald’s bag inside with a receipt, which led them to the restaurant on Metric Boulevard, according to an affidavit.
Surveillance video from that McDonald’s showed the Chevy Cruze pull to the drive through. The driver, later identified as 24-year-old Tyler Elliot Marshall, had pulled in at a bad angle and had to get out of the car to pay. “This put his face very close to the video camera and rendered and very clear shot of his countenance,” the affidavit stated.
Austin police issued a Be On The Lookout with stills from the surveillance footage and he was identified hours later.
Marshall faces an Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle charge. He is not currently in custody but his bond is set at $15,000.
