HUTTO, Texas (KXAN) — A Hutto man is in jail, accused of firing numerous shots at another driver during an apparent road rage incident over the weekend.
Arrest records show Pedro Acosta, 31, is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Hutto police say the incident between the two drivers started around 7 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18. Acosta told police he was traveling southbound on Ed Schmidt Boulevard when he passed a driver in a Ford F-250 who was in the middle turn lane. When he did that, the driver in the truck, a 54-year-old man, honked at Acosta, according to an arrest affidavit.
Acosta said that’s when he pulled into the parking lot of the Home Depot at 600 West US Highway 79 to make a phone call. The driver in the pickup truck then pulled up beside him.
According to an arrest affidavit, Acosta said he “confronted” the driver, who tried to leave, but Acosta said he “was not done talking” and pulled his vehicle in front of the truck.
The two vehicles collided and the truck driver told police he “feared for his safety.” Acosta then grabbed his firearm and fired numerous shots at the pickup truck, according to the affidavit.
The driver in the pickup truck was taken to the hospital with a foot wound.
A photo taken by a witness shows a black sedan, which was Acosta’s vehicle, with damage to the passenger door and trunk.
Acosta is currently being held on a $100,000 bond.
