GEORGETOWN, Texas (KXAN) — Officials removed a credit card skimmer from a gas pump in Georgetown Thursday.

Officials say the skimmer was at a pump outside the Berry Creek Food Store at 30713 Chi Chi Dr. Texas Department of Agriculture inspectors responded to the scene and Georgetown police worked to remove the devices and follow up. The Department of Agriculture says the fuel station was not aware of the skimmer and isn’t implicated in any illegal activity related to the device.

Customers who bought gas at that station should check their credit card statements to make sure their information wasn’t taken.

Whenever someone goes to a fuel pump, they should examine the credit card scanner. If something seems off, they should move to another pump or pay inside. People can complain about a pump by calling 800-TELL-TDA.

There have been numerous reports of credit card skimming in 2017, prompting the Travis County Sheriff’s Office to issue a warning and encourage drivers to pay inside gas stations instead of at the pump.
