BELLMEAD, Texas (KWKT/KXAN) — A 20-year-old Central Texas woman is in jail charged in connection with a 3-year-old’s drowning death.

Bellmead police say Sharrun Milligan Jernigan was supposed to be watching the little girl while they were at the pool located at the Bordeaux Apartments in Bellmead Sunday afternoon.

Just after 2 p.m., emergency crews were called to the apartment complex after the child was found unresponsive and not breathing in the pool area. The 3-year-old girl was taken to the hospital where she died.

Jernigan, who police describe as a friend of the family, was charged with injury to a child, reckless in the case and remained in the McLennan County Jail Monday morning with bond set at $25,000.

Police say the child had been left unsupervised for an extended period of time.
