Two 20-year-olds are in custody facing burglary charges after they stole several guitars from a blind man’s home last week, according to an arrest affidavit.
The burglary happened just before 4 a.m. on April 30 on Shadowood Drive in the Wooten neighborhood off Burnet and Ohlen Roads. The homeowner, who is blind, said he was sleeping when he was awoken by a voice inside his home.
When he got up, he noticed the front door was open. As he was closing the door, he told police heard a man’s voice whisper “What do we do now?” Worried, the victim left his home and went to his neighbor’s house.
The victim believes the suspects were able to get into his home because he left a spare key outside the home. The suspects stole six guitars and a cellphone.
The following day, a detective saw what appeared to be the stolen guitars listed for sale online. Police were able to track the online account to Rodney Bedford. Detectives met with Bedford and his friend Detravion Owens to “purchase” one of the guitars.
When police questioned the suspects, Owens said he and others “have recently gone to neighborhoods at night” looking for keys under doormats, according to the affidavit.
