NEW YORK CITY (KXAN) — A man who rented a room in a New York apartment walked out of it in handcuffs and facing charges of unlawful surveillance.

The apartment owner told New York City police that the man rented a room on Airbnb. At one point, she went to go use the bathroom and found a cell phone had been left there, with the camera facing the toilet. When she picked it up, she saw it was running a “Cambush” app — which starts recording when it detects movement.

The woman also found a recording device that looked like a charger adapter. It was plugged into a bathroom outlet.

Police say the man admitted the devices were his. The woman also told police he had asked her and her roommate what time they typically use the bathroom.

Back in September, Airbnb guests in Florida found hidden cameras in the rental that its owner had placed there. That man was arrested and charged with video voyeurism.
