AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man is in jail accused of grabbing a 7-year-old girl while she was standing at a customer service desk of a Home Depot in Sunset Valley Saturday afternoon.

According to an arrest affidavit, the man approached the child as she was standing next to her father’s girlfriend. The girlfriend told police the suspect placed his hands on the child’s shoulder and said, “Can you help me?” and began pulling the child toward him.

The girlfriend said she managed to get the child away from the suspect and shielded her from him. As she did, the man “continued to lunge toward them,” according to a police affidavit.

A store employee was able to get in between them until police arrived.

The affidavit stated the suspect was “disoriented” and possibly had a “psychotic episode.”
