AUSTIN (KXAN) — Police are investigating two different shootings on South Congress Avenue in south Austin on Monday night.

One person was shot and killed in the 7200 block, just south of William Cannon Drive. Austin Police Department said the death is being investigated as a homicide.

Austin Police say several people called 911 about hearing gunshots around 8:43 p.m at the SoCo Park Apartments. 911 callers said they saw a man staggering who appeared to be hurt.

The first police officer arrived two minutes later and found a man with multiple gunshot wounds. Officers tried to save his life, he was then taken to the hospital where he later died. Police say right now nobody is in custody. There is a vehicle involved in the shooting investigation but investigators would not say how it’s connected. This is the 82nd homicide in Austin.

Meanwhile, a mile-and-a-half north, near South Congress Avenue and Stassney Lane, APD said there were two other people who had been shot. They were taken to the hospital and are expected to survive. As of the last update given by police, detectives aren’t sure if the two shootings are related.
