EL PASO, Texas (AP) — A convicted sex offender from Australia living in West Texas faces up to 20 years in a U.S. prison for having more than 93,000 child pornography images. Alexandro Silva of El Paso pleaded guilty Wednesday to receipt and distribution of child pornography. The 44-year-old Silva remains in custody pending sentencing in El Paso.
Texas Department of Public Safety sex offender records show Silva in 2009 was convicted in Australia on child porn charges and sentenced to two years in prison. Court documents indicate Silva had a post-graduate scholarship at Australian National University, which issued a computer to him. Investigators who searched the laptop found thousands of child porn images.
Silva’s home in El Paso was raided last August. Computers and other electronics yielded more than 93,000 porn images and videos.
