Hunter recalls ceiling fans due to light globe falling dangers

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Hunter Fan is recalling nearly 170,000 ceiling fans due to concerns of the lighting globe being installed incorrectly due to wrong instructions.

The fan being recalled is the “Hunter Contempo” with models 59176 in the United States and 59174 in Canada. The model number can be found on a label on the top of the motor housing.

According to the recall, the owner’s manual instructs consumers to install the light globe incorrectly, which could cause the globe to fall. Consumers who have the fan should check to see if the light globe was installed correctly by turning it clockwise until it stops and is resting firmly in place.

Hunter has received 38 reports of the light globe falling in the U.S. and two in Canada. The fans were sold at Costco from January 2016 through August 2017.

Customers with further questions can call Hunter toll-free at 866-326-2003 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, or visit and click on “Recall.”
