CEDAR PARK, Texas (KXAN) — Those who commute through the intersection of Lakeline Boulevard and Cypress Creek Road know it’s a busy intersection with several restaurants, businesses and a branch of Austin Community College just down the road. The City of Cedar Park is working to make the intersection safer and more efficient.
On Monday, construction crews started work on widening the intersection. Once complete, there will be dual turn lanes from Cypress Creek Road onto Lakeline Boulevard and the right turn lanes at all four corners will be extended. There will also be a median along Cypress Creek Road.
Many drivers use Lakeline Boulevard as an alternate toll Highway 183A between Leander and Austin. May Bittle is a veteran taking classes at the Austin Community College Highland campus and commutes through the intersection regularly and says the delay has caused her to be late for class.
“The intersection affects me because it basically makes it way longer for me to get to class. Usually every morning it’s supposed to take me less than 20 minutes to get to campus,” said Bittle.
Officials recommend drivers may want to avoid the intersection during peak travel times or add some extra time on the clock. The project is expected to be completed in January 2016.
