AUSTIN (KXAN) — AISD students heard from local female leaders at a conference aimed to promote awareness for young women facing adversity.

The keynote speaker was Wilhemina Delco, the first African American on the AISD Board of Trustees. Delco was also the first African American state representative for Travis County.
Other speakers at the Ladies of Distinction Conference included college professors, dentists, doctors and engineers. From banking to fitness, female students in eighth through 12th grade participated in classes lead by women in multiple careers and backgrounds.
The Ladies of Distinction Conference began in 2012, with the goal of teaching young women about driven female leaders.For more information visit their website here.
