CEDAR PARK, Texas (KXAN) — Police and fire crews responded to a report of a suspicious package on Brashear Lane in Cedar Park, Tuesday evening, evacuating 11 homes. At around 8:50 p.m., police said the object contained laser survey equipment and there was no danger to the public.

Families further away from the incident location, but still in the area, were told to shelter-in-place.

Cedar Park police say that at 5:30 p.m., a resident called in a suspicious package. Officers arrived and found a black box and cell phone in the front yard of a home. Austin police and the DPS bomb squads were at the scene investigating.

Earlier Tuesday, a suspicious package shut down Congress Avenue in downtown Austin after a suspicious powder was found inside a package. The city’s bomb squad determined the substance was not hazardous.
