Cedar Park boy collects socks for homeless

CEDAR PARK, Texas (KXAN) — Instead of birthday presents this year, Christian Oviedo asked for socks, and friends and family delivered. The eight-year-old boy collected 1,319 pairs, much more than his goal of 250 pairs.

“It feels incredible,” said Christian.

Christian and his mother spent part of the day loading up a mobile truck to deliver the socks and meals Monday morning.

“I’m just amazed at what he’s been wanting to do,” Yvette Oviedo, Christian’s mother said.

Oviedo says people have been there for her son, who has Vascular Ehlers-Danlos, a rare syndrome that makes his arteries and organs fragile. And his sock collection is no different.

“I’m so thankful for our community and our friends and our family who are supporting his goal and far exceeding what he wanted it to,” says Oviedo.

Some socks showed up from as far away as Japan and Costa Rica and several packages were filled with a little extra, including shoes and toiletries.

Christian and other volunteers with the ministry Mobile Loaves & Fishes will help pass out socks and meals Monday morning throughout Cedar Park.
