AUSTIN (KXAN) — If Texas keeps ping ponging from win to loss in the Big 12, the chances the Longhorns reach the postseason will keep dwindling.
Consistency is key after this weekend’s win against Oklahoma. Shaka Smart is putting a lot of pressure on his team to perform on the road this week at TCU and at Georgia.
Texas needs every win it can get to boost the resume’ and road wins will make a difference in the eyes of the committee.
“You’ve got to make it happen. The win on Saturday is even better if you win on Wednesday and it’s not as good if you lose on Wednesday (vs. TCU). Just have to have that extreme sense of urgency,” Smart said.
According to the latest bracket projections, the Longhorns (11-7, 3-3) are still in the NCAA Tournament field, and actually sit a game out of first place in the Big 12 standings.
Though, Smart isn’t too focused on the standings after his team just stopped a three-game losing streak.
Texas looked tough against Oklahoma battling back to take the lead in the final minutes and closing down the stretch. Longhorns senior Dylan Osetkowski played with a sense of toughness about him putting together his best game of the season with 15 points on 5-9 shooting with 11 rebounds.
Now, can the Longhorns duplicate the effort against TCU?
“It’s a great opportunity to go on the road and see how tough and solid we can be,” Smart said.
