AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man in his 30s was shot in downtown Austin Friday evening, a few blocks east of the State Capitol complex.
Austin-Travis County EMS medics took the man to Dell Seton Medical Center with serious injuries from the shooting scene on a sidewalk in the area of Red River Street and East 12th Street.
Police officers were called to the scene at 8:20 p.m. and have detained three people. Several witnesses are also being questioned. Officers say one weapon was found, but they do not believe it was the gun used in the shooting.
Police say they don’t know what led up to the shooting, but are investigating. APD says there is no danger to the public since the shooting was an isolated incident.
An ATCEMS spokesperson initially said the man’s injuries were life-threatening, but has since issued an update that the patient’s injuries are not life-threatening.
About two hours after the shooting in downtown, another man was shot in a separate incident in southeast Austin near Stassney Lane and Interstate 35.
