Bomb squad investigates suspicious package downtown

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The bomb squad responded to a report of a suspicious package in a building on Congress Avenue in Downtown Austin, Tuesday afternoon.

Police were sent to 816 Congress between Eighth and Ninth streets around 4:00 p.m. APD says the package has a suspicious powder on it.

The entire building was evacuated, viewers on the scene said. Both north and southbound lanes of Congress were blocked; roads were reopened around 6:30 p.m.

People who were evacuated were allowed to leave the perimeter set up outside the building. The bomb squad did not find anything hazardous.
