BURNET COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — Deputies responded to a vehicle fire near Lake Victor in Burnet County Monday evening. Investigators recovered a body from inside the vehicle.

The sheriff’s office responded to the 3800 block of Burnet County Road 202, between the towns of Lampasas and Burnet, around 8 p.m. Emergency crews arrived to find the vehicle engulfed in flames.

A passerby initially called 911 after seeing smoke and flames inside.

Authorities say while the identity is unknown, the victim is believed to be male. A cause of death will be released following autopsy results from the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office.

“Anytime there are unanswered questions surrounding a death, the investigation remains as suspicious until investigators can determine the actual events,” Sheriff W.T. Smith said.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office and Texas Rangers are assisting with the investigation.
