Black Friday weekend begins in Central Texas

ROUND ROCK, Texas (KXAN) — The Black Friday holiday weekend, filled with shopping and savings for customers across the country, officially began the evening of Thanksgiving for thousands of Central Texans.

Thousands of shoppers made their way Thursday evening to Round Rock Premium Outlets to cash in on promised savings.

“I’m looking at the shoe stores and the purse stores, like Michael Kors, Calvin Klein,” said Rose Obita, an area shopper who arrived at the outlet when stores opened their doors at 6 p.m. “The line was long at Michael Kors but, totally worth it.”

Obita purchased six bags from the designer store and estimates she saved as much as $600. “It’s not even a gift for anyone. It’s just for me,” she said, laughing.

The woman is just one of hundreds of people who say they are shopping early trying to get good deals.

“A lot of times, you’ll get really great deals at the very beginning of Black Friday rushes and that really entices the shoppers to come in and get their shopping done as early as possible,” said Brianna Tudor, the Director of marketing and business development at Round Rock Premium Outlets.

The early start to holiday shopping may not be for everyone.

“I did most of mine online. I’m just not the kind of person for crowds,” said Scott Lynch, from Pflugerville. Lynch said when it comes to his wife, she has a different story. “She’s a shopper. She’ll stay out all day if she can,” he said, laughing.

Lynch said jokingly he went shopping Thursday night to make his wife happy. In all seriousness, he said it’s good to make a dent in his shopping list. “I think we’re getting there. Doing it now before… I’m always the procrastinator, so I always wait until the last minute.”

Stores at Round Rock Premium Outlets will remain open until 10 p.m. Friday. For a list of stores and their holiday hours, visit the mall’s website by clicking here.
