Billboard Near Vega Telling ‘Liberals’ to Leave Texas to be Replaced

As we first reported yesterday, a billboard on I-40 near Vega is has gone viral, but it has since been replaced by an “advertise here” sign. Now a new message is on the way, this time from the Amarillo Convention and Visitors Council.

The billboard previously said, “Liberals please continue on I-40 until you have left our GREAT STATE OF TEXAS.”

We contacted Randy Burkett, the owner of Burkett Outdoor Advertising, and the billboard’s owner.

He said the client who paid for the billboard wanted to take it down, and the client did not realize it would cause so much controversy.

Burkett told the billboard will be replaced with another client’s ad.

Dan Quandt with the Amarillo Convention and Visitors Council contacted and told us they are the new clients. He said they will be putting up a welcome sign.

Burkett said he has talked to several outlets like MSNBC, Fox News, and Breitbart about the sign.

Burkett is not disclosing who the previous client is.

Prior to the client’s decision to remove the sign, a gofundme was set up to replace the billboard.

The organizers wanted to change the billboard to say “Texas is for everyone–except bigots.”

Burkett said he did not know about the gofundme before we told him.
