KANSAS CITY (KXAN) — Despite a 16-15 record, there still appears to be a very real chance for Texas to make the NCAA Tournament wtih a win over Kansas Thursday night.
Discussion about the Longhorns tournament chances has been a broken record over the past couple weeks.
They needed two wins in the final five games to be considered a tournament team. Texas went 1-4 down the stretch missing their leading scorer, Kerwin Roach, in all five games.
Roach will return to the team against Kansas. Texas coach Shaka Smart wouldn’t say whether Roach will start of come off the bench, but he did say Roach is anxious to play again.
“He was very apologetic to his teammates, its hard to tell with young players because it is mixed emotions, but our message to him was we’ve got to move forward from here,” Smart said.
The two worst losses of the season couldn’t have come at the worst time for Texas. The Longhorns lost big at Texas Tech and at home to TCU to end the year.
Texas and Kansas play in the final quarterfinal game of the night at 8:30 p.m.
