Big 12 bowl breakdown

Texas Longhorns Bowl

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Bowl season is upon us with seven Big 12 teams making it to the postseason. Texas and Oklahoma headline the bowl season match ups in terms of enticement, but there are several intriguing games across the slate.

Oklahoma, representing the Big 12, is in the College Football Playoff for the second straight season. With the Sooners reaching the final four, Texas gets a nice boost in to the “New Years Six” bowl to face Georgia. The Longhorns are just the second four-loss to reach a “New Years Six” bowl game.

Oklahoma State and Missouri meet at the Liberty Bowl in Memphis for a Big 12 reunion. The Cowboys and Tigers already played once outside of the conference with Missouri winning the 2014 Cotton Bowl 41-31.

The Schwartzwalder Trophy is at stake with West Virginia and Syracuse at the Camping World Bowl in Orlando. This rivalry ended in 2012 when West Virginia moved to the Big 12. Before that, these two teams played each other 58 straight years. Syracuse owns the overall advantage 33-27.
