SAN MARCOS, Texas (KXAN) — The city of San Marcos has been able to lure another business focused on e-commerce to setup shop in its town.
On Tuesday, the Greater San Marcos Partnership (GSMP) announced Best Buy selected San Marcos as the location for its first e-commerce sales operation in Texas. Best Buy will take over a building located in a strip center at 900 Bugg Lane.
The company, which has closed dozens of brick and mortar stores over the past few years, expects to hire 25 employees for sales positions in the first year. They are expected to begin operations in October.
“We are delighted to welcome Best Buy as San Marcos’ newest corporate citizen,” said Daniel Guerrero, Mayor of the City of San Marcos. “A previously vacant 20,000 square foot building will now be a major revenue source for the City, which can be put towards serving the residents of San Marcos. This is a big win and I am excited at the possibilities that will be open to our community with these good jobs and revenue.”
The city along with Hays County agreed to give Best Buy a 10-year sales tax rebate at 75 percent along with a 10-year personal property tax rebate at 50 percent.
Amazon recently opened a new distribution center in San Marcos. They received a 40 percent tax break on property taxes for the next 10 years.
