BASTROP COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — All of the animals housed at the Bastrop County Animal Control and Shelter are safe after severe weather Saturday night.

The same cannot be said of the facilities. When staff members arrived the next morning, they found evidence of damages done by heavy winds and rain. Trees had fallen, a building had been significantly damaged and a carport was displaced by the storm.

The shelter is closed to the public for safety reasons, but is still taking in stray animals that have been displaced by the storm. The shelter is located at 589 Cool Water Drive, Bastrop, Texas 78602. Electricity and phone service is down, so anyone bringing in an emergency stray is asked to honk their horn when they arrive so a staff member can meet them at the gate.

With the high number of displaced animals, the shelter is asking for help with rescues or fostering. While electricity and phone lines are out at this time, the shelter can be reached through their website.
