Babysitter in Virginia speaks out after toddler found dead in dryer

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — New details in the tragic death of a 3-year-old in Virginia Beach.

The child’s mother and babysitter have identified the child as Brantley Lloyd. Brantley celebrated his third birthday on August 6. The next day, Virginia Beach police confirm they responded to a call for a young child in cardiac arrest in the Chic’s Beach area.

The child was pronounced dead at the scene. Brantley’s mother tells 10 On Your Side he was found in the dryer by his father.

10 On Your Side spoke with Brantley’s babysitter, Melissa Parra, who says she has a hard time believing he’s really gone. Parra says she started babysitting Brantley when he was 6 months old.

“I took care of him like he was one of my own kids,” explained Parra. “I just loved this little boy like he was mine.”

Parra watched Brantley just two days before he died. She says she didn’t find out about his death until days later when she saw a Facebook post and called his mother, who confirmed it was true.

“I broke down in tears,” said Parra. “I was here outside of the apartments of my house. I dropped straight down onto the concrete, on to my knees and I just busted into tears.”

Parra attended Brantley’s funeral this past Saturday, but says she still has a hard time accepting that she’ll never see him again.

10 On Your Side touched base with Virginia Beach police, who say they’re still treating this as a death investigation and so far no one is facing any charges for Brantley’s death.
