AUSTIN (KXAN) — Seton Medical Center Hays was warned Wednesday of an “unauthorized person”‘s intent to take an infant from the hospital. Thursday, Seton said no attempt has been made.

In response to the threat, police were notified and patrols at the Kyle hospital were increased. All area hospitals were notified of the potential threat through the Capitol Area Trauma Regional Advisory Council (CATRAC).

“The safety of patients, visitors and employees at Seton facilities is our top priority, every day,” a spokesperson said. “Our hospitals meet and exceed national best practice security protocols for child and infant safety, including the performance of multiple drills annually.”

Staff members are trained to recognize and respond to suspicious behavior, the statement said. Labor and delivery units have extra security measures to protect the hospital’s “tiniest and most vulnerable patients.”
