AUSTIN (KXAN) — The search is on to find out who vandalized an iconic mural in Austin.

Someone spray painted a red cross in the middle of the Hi How Are You mural. Austin police say they don’t have any leads on what happened to the mural.

Known as one of the must-see spots in Austin, the mural was created by a local eccentric musician Daniel Johnson in the early 90’s. It is located at the intersection of 21st Street and Guadalupe.

The last time this happened was in 2013. Police caught Rebecca Guest in the act of spray painting profanity on the mural. Guest told police she thought the mural was meant to insult her personally and believed covering it with bad words would provoke the building owner to remove it.
