AUSTIN (KXAN) — Labor Day weekend is often the time Austinites grab a drink, sunscreen, bathing suit and head to the lakes. Austin police say they want the community to have fun but warn they will be searching for DWI offenders.
This year, APD has extended the No Refusal DWI enforcement initiative starting from Aug. 19 to Sept. 6 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. each day. Drivers who refuse to give police a blood or breath sample will still undergo testing if police believe they are intoxicated and apply for a search warrant.
The department released a statement saying “The Austin Police Department is focused on saving lives in the Austin metropolitan area and making roadways safe for everyone through education and enforcement.”
