AUSTIN (KXAN) — Entrepreneurs from across the country are in Austin this week, hoping to find the key to launch their businesses.
They will attend a two day conference put on by Austin entrepreneur Ryan Moran. He is the host of the Freedom Fast Lane podcast, which is ranked in the top 20 on the iTunes marketing and management chart.
Moran joined us in the KXAN studio to give the keys to his success. When did you become an entrepreneur?
“The best strategy to make the changes that you want to see in the world is to do something about it yourself.” -Ryan Moran
“I was born an entrepreneur,” said Moran laughing. “My first business I like to say was when I was five years old. I drew hand drawn pictures with a pen and paper, took it door to door and tried to sell them for a penny each and I made five cents that night.”
Through college Moran studied economics with a goal of becoming an entrepreneur.
“I saw that really a frustration of my generation is thinking that they would wait for government or someone outside of themselves to make the changes that they wanted to see in the world,” said Moran. “And I thought ‘Gosh well the best strategy to make the changes that you want to see in the world is to do something about it yourself.'”How does somebody know their idea will work?
“They beauty of today’s world is that you can test ideas really really quickly. Anybody can start a blog, YouTube channel, podcast. And when you have about 1,000 followers, when you have about 1,000 people who choose you for their information, who choose you for your opinions, that’s really when you can prove a concept.”
Services like Kick Starter also provide you the opportunity to put up and have people vote on your product. Having people show interest can prove the validity of a concept before you even put money down.
Whether your start a business or represent an idea, “that’s what an entrepreneur does, that’s what a capitalist does and that’s why I became an entrepreneur,” said Moran.Check out his new website capitalism.com launching soon.
