After seven hour stand-off, Austin SWAT resolves situation with barricaded man in northeast Austin home


AUSTIN (KXAN) — Am Austin SWAT situation involving a barricaded man inside of a home near Harris Branch Parkway has been resolved after nearly seven hours, according to the Austin Police Department.

Austin police arrived at the house in the 6400 block of Adair Drive in northeast Austin around 4 p.m. Tuesday after receiving a call from a woman saying her husband was having a mental episode, according to APD Officer Bino Cadenas.

The woman, who wasn’t in the home, told officers that her husband had a gun and sent her photos of the weapon.

Officers evacuated eight residents from nearby houses on the street and were able to establish communication with the man around 8 p.m.

At 10 p.m., the man exited the residence attempting to hide in a nearby field, according to APD. He was found by police helicopter and was taken into custody without incident or injury.

No officers were harmed in the stand-off. The man isn’t facing criminal charges, but will be evaluated mentally.
