Alamo Drafthouse on S. Lamar closed for day, after employee’s death

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Alamo Drafthouse movie theater on South Lamar Boulevard is closed Sunday to give staff time to be with their friends and family after one of their employees died.

Officials at the Travis County Medical Examiner’s office identified the employee as 35-year-old Jason Dean. They said an autopsy is pending.

A company spokesperson said Dean died near their South Lamar theater. The theater chain spokesperson did not expand on the nature of the death.

Medics with Austin-Travis County EMS told KXAN they were called 1120 South Lamar Boulevard at 3:18 a.m. Sunday for reports of a person falling about 30 feet. Medics tried to resuscitate the man, but he died at the scene.

Alamo Drafthouse posted this statement to their Facebook page:
