AUSTIN (KXAN) — Some Austin Independent School District students will get to start their spring break a little early thanks to President Barack Obama’s visit Friday.

On Wednesday, the district announced it will allow for the early release at 17 campuses near the downtown corridor to help “minimize complications for our families, staff and students.”

The 17 campuses on the list will release students and staff at 12:30 p.m. The early release applies only to these schools:

  • Ann Richards School
  • Austin High School
  • LASA High School
  • LBJ Early College High School
  • Fulmore Middle School
  • Kealing Middle School
  • O. Henry Middle School
  • Barton Hills Elementary School
  • Becker Elementary School
  • Dawson Elementary School
  • GalindoElementary School
  • Pease Elementary School
  • Mathews Elementary School
  • Travis Heights Elementary School
  • Zilker Elementary School
  • Rosedale School
  • Clifton Career Development Center

Classes and transportation will continue as scheduled at all other campuses. However, if families pick up their students early from other campuses, it will be counted as an excused absence.

Besides AISD, the City of Austin is also releasing non-essential staff at noon on Friday.
