AUSTIN (KXAN) — A new development in Central Austin is creating an affordable housing program for teachers at AISD.
Wednesday, a group of city and school leaders announced the initiative. The Grove at Shoal Creek will set aside 19 units for teachers. Prices will range from $432 to $1,200 a month.
One AISD School Board Member says she hopes to see developers make more commitments like this one.
“This will be a great start to assist our teachers out to Williamson County and Hays County, which a lot of our teachers have to do and this really could make a great impact,” said Julie Cowan, AISD School Board Trustee, District 4. “I hope this will be a good example for other developers that we might expand to have sites like this throughout the city.”
In December, we showed you some of the plans for the Grove at Shoal Creek.
The 76 acres of property next to MoPac and Bull Creek Road will be transformed into homes, townhouses, condos and a trail, as well as restaurants and shops.
