Aerial video shows Colorado River crest in Fayette County

LA GRANGE, TEXAS (KXAN) – The Colorado River is already dropping following heavy storms on Friday. The river crested in La Grange at just shy of 42 feet around 3 a.m. Saturday.

As of 6 p.m. Saturday, the river already dropped two feet, which still means it is in a major flood level. The river was about 12 feet deep on Thursday.

KXAN captured exclusive video from above the Colorado River. In it cars are visibly under water. The water even went into families’ homes.

The Rodriguez family had to leave their home Friday. The water leading up to their home is about four to five feet deep. However, because their home is higher up, everything inside is dry. The family is staying with relatives until they can safely return home.

“Besides a bunch of mess, everything is ok,” said Randy Rodriguez. “It could’ve been worse.”

The water is expected to drop below flood stage by Sunday afternoon.
