35 pounds of marijuana found at Austin airport

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Police arrested a 25-year-old male at the Austin airport after 35 pounds of marijuana were found in his checked luggage, according to the arrest affidavit. Upon his arrival from California to Dallas and then Austin on Feb. 15, police were waiting for Luis Zamora after receiving a tip from a confidential source, as stated in the affidavit.

Austin Police were able to search their records before his flight landed, discovering that Zamora had been previously arrested for possession of marijuana. Before making it to the baggage claim police pulled five of Zamora’s bags aside.

The surveying team followed Zamora from the flight to the baggage area where a narcotics K9 was waiting. After sniffing the luggage, the K9 alerted officers of a potential controlled substance.

Zamora was stopped by officers as he tried to exit the airport. When asked if they could search his bags, Zamora said no. Once a search warrant was issued, 33 vacuum sealed bags of marijuana were discovered in the luggage, weighing 35 pounds.

Zamora is currently being held at the Travis County Jail on a $30,000 bond.
