3-year-old killed in Austin hit-and-run

News

AUSTIN (KXAN) – Police are asking for the public’s help in search of the driver that hit and killed a 3-year-old boy Sunday afternoon.

It happened shortly after 5 p.m. in the 5700 block of Cameron Road near Clayton Lane in east Austin. Police say the family was legally crossing in the crosswalk when the child was hit by the truck.

Officers say when they arrived, parents of the 3-year-old were giving the boy first aid. EMS took over and took the child to Dell Children’s Medical Center, where he passed away.

One neighbor says cars speed through the area too often.

“The cars just don’t stop, they just don’t care. You’re walking and they’re zooming around you or in front of you,” explains Catalina Garcia.

The suspect vehicle is described as an older white and tan Chevy Silverado with a ladder in the back of the cargo bed.

This is the second pedestrian fatality involving a child in less than a month.
