AUSTIN (KXAN) — Kevin Kisner made the most of his second straight appearance in the Dell Technologies Match Play Finals.
Kisner defeated Matt Kuchar 3 & 2 at Austin Country Club for the biggest win of his PGA Tour career.
The former Georgia Bulldog put pressure on Kuchar, a Georgia Tech product, from the start with a birdie on the first hole for a 1 Up lead. He won on the 16th with a 12-foot birdie putt after going 3 Up at the 15th hole.
Kisner’s come a long way grinding his way through the mini-tours and Web.com Tour. In 2013, Kisner thought about calling off his professional golf career.
Kisner never trailed Kuchar in Sunday’s final and only trailed by one hole during the semifinal and final rounds.
He joins a premiere list of match play champions at Austin Country Club.
This is Kisner’s third PGA Tour victory and his first World Golf Championship. Kisner is the first golfer to lose his first match in the group play stage and still win the championship.
In the third place match, Francesco Molinari led Lucas Bjerregaard from start to finish, winning 4 & 2 after Bjerregaard bogeyed the 16th hole.
