DALLAS (KXAN) — The theme that would end up defining the 2017 Texas football season showed up in Dallas for the Red River Rivalry against Oklahoma last year.
Texas couldn’t close against the better competition on the schedule.
The Longhorns put themselves in a 20-0 hole against Baker Mayfield and OU, but showed some real swagger taking a 24-23 lead late in the fourth quarter.
It only lasted a little over a minute of game time when Mayfield connected on a 59 yard touchdown pass to Mark Andrews giving the Sooners the rivalry win in back-to-back seasons.
Texas lost 29-24 dropping to 3-3 in Tom Herman’s first season as the Longhorns head coach. Roger Wallace has more looking back on the Cotton Bowl match up.
