2 SAE members arrested for assault after noise complaint

News

AUSTIN (KXAN) – Two Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity members were charged with assault after a neighbor confronted them about loud music that had been playing at the house for several hours, according to an arrest affidavit.

The arrest came during Roundup, the annual, weekend-long recruiting event for Greek organizations at the University of Texas.

Police say they were called to the home several times Saturday night and Sunday morning because of noise complaints. About 5 a.m. Sunday, a neighbor told police he was going to the home because “the music had not stopped all night.”

An officer approaching the house saw five men pushing and surrounding the neighbor, according to an arrest affidavit. Two of the men then started punching and kicking the neighbor.

Police charged Joseph Hardgrove, 22, and 19-year-old John Bass with assault with injury, a Class A misdemeanor.
