ABILENE, Texas (AP) — Investigators say a single-engine airplane has crashed in West Texas and both people on board were killed.

Taylor County Sheriff Ricky Bishop says there were no survivors in Tuesday morning’s fiery accident at Elmdale Airpark in Abilene.

Authorities are trying to determine what caused the two-seat Vans RV-6 experimental aircraft to crash during takeoff.

A Federal Aviation Administration statement says the plane exploded on impact during the crash shortly before 9 a.m. CST Tuesday.

Officials did not immediately release names of the victims or provide the plane’s destination.

Further details weren’t immediately available.
