Reporter / Evening Weekend Anchor
Emmy award-winning journalist Tom Miller anchors KXAN’s weekend evening news and reports during the week for the night team. Tom joined KXAN in 2018 and focuses on education issues. Before coming to KXAN, Tom worked in Sacramento where he covered some of the most destructive wildfires in California history. He later won Emmy and AP awards for his breaking news coverage.
Tom loves geeking out with new technologies to help immerse viewers in his stories. Most notably, a series of videos he shot using a 360-degree camera inside a beehive, bat colony and bomb shelter helped win a 2018 Regional Edward R. Murrow Award in the Excellence in Innovation category. Tom returns to Austin after having previously worked at KVUE. His career started at KSBW on California’s Central Coast, where Tom was able to live and work in the area he grew up in. Tom graduated magna cum laude with a degree in broadcast journalism from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University. While at ASU, Tom reported for Cronkite Newswatch, which was named the top collegiate newscast in the country by the Society of Professional Journalists.
When he’s not reporting, Tom enjoys seeking out good barbecue, exploring Austin’s hiking trails and spending time with his wife and baby boy.
