Jala Washington is the Hays County Reporter, covering stories in nearly a dozen communities, that matter most to its residents.
She’s been a storyteller, and Bilingual Journalist with KXAN since December of 2020. She speaks English and Spanish.
Jala joins the team after two years, in El Paso, Texas, Reporting and Fill-in Anchoring. There she covered a wide range of stories. Some of her most memorable coverage includes: the border immigration crisis, presidential visits, the August 3rd Walmart mass shooting, a COVID-19 government shutdown feud, and ‘Black Lives Matter’ protests.
Before El Paso, Jala started her career in Amarillo, Texas.
Since taking on an exciting new role with KXAN, Jala has enjoyed meeting neighbors virtually, and in-person when a story allows her to do so safely.
Jala is looking forward to taking on the challenge of important, compelling journalism, helping get answers that predominately surround the COVID-19 pandemic.
Though, born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana—Jala considers Texas a second home.
She loves the warm weather, exploring new outdoor places, and of course—is always down to try a new restaurant.
